About KVPY

  • The KVPY is a program started in 1999.
  • This program is funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST), government of India.
  • KVPY program is for those students who wants to pursue their research career in the field of basic science, engineering and medicine.
  • Under this program students will get scholarship and contingency grant up to the Pre PhD level.
  • This scheme is to attract extraordinarily talented and extremely enthused students for pursuing their career in science.

Objective

  •  Identify students with talent and aptitude for research.
  • Help students to realize their latent in their studies.
  • Encourage them to take up research career in science.
  • Ensure the growth of the best scientific minds for research and development in the country.

Selection

  • Students from 11th standard to 1st year of any undergraduate program in basic science (B.Sc/ B.S., B.Stat, B.Math, Int. M.Sc/M.S in physics, chemistry, math, biology) are eligible for KVPY program.
  • Department of science and technology(DST) have given all the responsibilities to Indian institute of science to conduct aptitude test in various centers in country.
  • After aptitude test, short listed candidates called for interview.
  • Interview is the final stage of selection process.
  • Merit list is based on 75% weight-age of aptitude test and 25% weight-age of interview marks

Fellowship

  •  During 1st to 3rd year of B.Sc/ B.S., B.Stat, B.Math, Int. M.Sc/M.S- monthly fellowship will be RS. 5000/- per month, with 20,000/- per year annual contingency grant.
  • During 3rd to 4th year of M.Sc/ M.S., M.Stat, M.Math- monthly fellowship will be RS. 7000/- per month, with 28,000/- per year annual contingency grant.

Eligibility criteria:

For KVPY scholarship examination, students are categorized in three streams. (Stream SA-, Stream SX, Stream SB)

Stream SA-

  • Students those are currently studying in class 11th with science stream are eligible for stream SA
  • To apply for Stream SA student must have Scored a minimum of 80% (70% for ST,SC,) in 10th boardAfter qualifying Stream SA, students Have to secure minimum 60% ( 50% for ST,SC,PWD) marks aggregate in science in 12th sta
  • ndard, only after that they will be eligible for scholarship.
  • The scholarship will be Activated only after joining undergraduate course in basic science

Stream SX-

  • Students those are currently studying in class 12th with science stream are eligible for stream SX.
  • Students must have to Scored a minimum of 80% (70% for ST,SC,) in 10th board.
  • Students must Have to secure minimum 60% ( 50% for ST,SC,PWD) marks aggregate in science in 12th standard.
  • The scholarship will be Activated only after joining undergraduate course in basic science

Stream SB-

  • Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences can apply for Stream SB.
  • Students must have to secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in XII Standard Board Examination.
  • In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./B.S./B.Math./B.Stat./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S. they must have to secure 60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks.

  • Mode of examination will be both online and offline.
  • Language of the examination will be Hindi and English.
  • Duration for the exam will be 3 hours.
  • Type of question will be objective type questions

KVPY Marking Scheme

For PART 1 of stream SA/SX/SB

  • 1 mark will be awarded for correct response.
  • .25(1/4) mark will be deducted for incorrect response.

For PART 2 of stream SA/SX/SB

  • 1 mark will be awarded for correct response.
  • 0.50 marks will be deducted for incorrect response.

Important dates:-

  • Last date for the request of the application form by post- Last week of August.
  • Last date for closing of Online Application- 2nd week of September.
  • Last date for closing receipt of the completed Application (Both online and hard copy)- 2nd week of September.
  • Exam date- 1st week of November
